Three hundred years ago this stone building was a sheep drover's pub. Later it became a stagecoach inn, then during WWII it was popular with fighter pilots based nearby. Situated on the edge of Northumberland National Park, it is within easy reach of fishing on both the Till and Tweed, walking routes in the Cheviot Hills, and the battle site of Flodden Field (AD1513). Locally sourced ingredients feature in dishes such as honey roast pork belly with bubble-and-squeak, home-made steak and ale pie, spinach and butternut squash curry, and poached salmon fillet wrapped in smoked bacon. There's also a choice of excellent guest beers to wash it all down with.
