19-21 Bank Street, MALVERN, WR14 2JG
From this pub's garden, the looming presence of North Hill, northernmost top of the stunning Malvern Hills, takes the eye - if only momentarily - away from the panoply of delights at this enterprising free house. 'Real ale, real food, real people' is the motto at The Nag's Head. Fifteen real ales, many from local breweries, adorn the bar; eight are permanent fixtures and include three from the pub's own St George's microbrewery. The interior is dotted with snugs, log fires and a magpie's nest of artefacts to create a cosy atmosphere, and the marvellous menu features 6oz fillet beef Wellington with dauphinoise potatoes; and St George's beer-battered fresh cod, home-made chips and peas. There's an annual beer festival to celebrate St George's Day in April, and also one dedicated to cider.
