The building, originally a gin house built in 1850, is noted for its airy and open plan interior. It became a first-generation gastro-pub in the early 1990s, featuring a large half moon bar fronted by high tables; lofty ceiling spaces, a skylight and theatre-style kitchen characterise the dining room. Guest ales and many bottled beers witness its credentials as a drinker's pub, confirmed by the beer festival held here in the third week of March.
