11A Northington Street, LONDON, WC1N 2JF
A blue plaque marks the house in nearby Gower Street where Bloomsbury aristocrat and society hostess Lady Ottoline Morrell lived. Her memory also lives on in this attractive corner pub with a log fire, where rotating real ales, bottled craft beers, several real ciders, and nine wines by the glass are always at the ready. Mount the stairs to the cosy dining rooms for good seasonal British food. Start with canapés, or tomato salad with black olives and Lincolnshire poacher cheese; continue with Cornish plaice, peas, smoked bacon and caper butter; or chicken, leek and mushroom pie with spring greens; and finish up with sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream; or dark chocolate and honey mousse with a hazelnut cookie.
