Feeling like a country pub in the middle of South Kensington, the interior has barely changed since 1827, though the dining area has been tastefully updated with panelled walls and leather-clad chairs, plus there's outside seating. Lunch and dinner menus place an emphasis on quality ingredients, fresh preparation and cosmopolitan flavours. From the menu expect perhaps goat's cheese, spinach and fig tart; crispy fried baby squid with risotto nero; wild boar and apple sausages with mash, braised red cabbage and shallot gravy; pan-fried skate wing with hand-cut chips, watercress and aïoli; followed by rum pannacotta with rhubarb compôte. Sunday lunches are popular, booking is advisable.
