French House

49 Dean Street, Soho, LONDON, W1D 5BG

This legendary Soho watering hole was known as the Maison Francais a hundred years ago; it was patronised by General de Gaulle during the Second World War, and later by Dylan Thomas, Francis Bacon, Dan Farson and many other louche Soho habitués. Run by Lesley Lewis for over 27 years, the small, intimate and very atmospheric bar only serves half pints of Theakston, Meteor, Kronenbourg and Guinness. The upstairs is a second bar, offering more informal drinking space; this area is also used as an art gallery. Bar food is served only from Monday to Friday.
