A former AA Pub of the Year for Wales, this charming country pub is located in a pretty rural village just a five-minute drive from the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno. Once the storehouse of the Llangwestennin Parish, this early 18th-century pub is perfectly situated for country walks, cycling, or a day on the beach. The Queens Head continues to attract discerning customers with its warm welcome, effortless charm and excellent service. The stylish terrace is great for summer evenings, whilst on colder nights the relaxed atmosphere in the bar is perfect for a pre-dinner drink by the log fire; real ales include Great Orme brews, and the lip-smacking wine list with description notes on the back of the menu has plenty of choice. The dedicated kitchen makes excellent use of local produce in varied menus that might include a starter of Conwy fish soup finished with brandy and tomato; award-winning smoked breast of Barbary duck with tomato and red onion chutney; or deep-fried Welsh Brie with homemade cranberry and orange chutney. Local fish and seafood is the cornerstone of the menu and typical examples are homemade salmon and coriander fishcakes; seared Anglesey king scallops with pea purée, pancetta and rocket or baked fillet of cod topped with Welsh rarebit served with creamy leeks, roasted vine tomatoes and chunky chips. Meat-lovers and vegetarians are certainly not overlooked, with the likes of homemade steak, mushroom and ale pie; grilled pork and leek sausages and char-grilled halloumi with roasted pepper, vine tomatoes, asparagus and dauphinoise potatoes.
