Main Street, LEVISHAM, Pickering, YO18 7NL
On the edge of the North York Moors National Park, this village pub is an ideal overnight stop while touring the area, perhaps by steam train from Levisham station. Charles and Toby Wood have created an inviting atmosphere, especially apparent in the beamed and wooden-floored bar, where a gilt-edged mirror hangs above the open fire, and the real ales are from Black Sheep and Cropton. Local suppliers play a big part behind the scenes so that the kitchen can prepare hearty plates of Whitby scampi and chips, steak and ale pie, and sausage and mash with onion gravy.
