A short drive from Torquay and Newton Abbot, this former 13th-century flour mill occupies an enviably secluded location in the wooded Stoneycombe Valley. Now a family-owned free house, the spacious property blends old and new in a fresh contemporary style. It comprises an attractive bar with roaring log fires and comfy sofas, and a restaurant separated into three areas - The Fireside, The Mill Room and The Panel Room. While perusing the appealing menu enjoy a pint of Otter or Teignworthy ale. Dishes are freshly prepared using quality produce from the local area. Fish from Brixham is a feature of the daily specials, along with regulars slow-braised lamb shank, minted pea purée, champ and rosemary jus; supreme of chicken, wild mushroom, leek and Madeira sauce; and pan-fried sea bass fillets with creamy mashed potato, crayfish and cucumber butter. There is outside decking and a tranquil garden.
