Duke of York

Brow Top, GRINDLETON, BB7 4QR

Built of local stone, with an interior characterised by low ceilings, stone-flagged floors and little nooks and crannies, this creeper-clad village pub is at least 150 years old. Food takes the lead, although the bar still gets its fair share of Lancaster Blonde real ale drinkers. Driving things from the kitchen is chef/proprietor Michael Heathcote, on whose daily menu appears a short, but carefully chosen, choice of dishes, such as crispy duck and chorizo salad; Lancashire cheese and caramelised onion soufflé; steamed steak and ale pudding with triple cooked chips; and lobster thermidor. There's a lovely garden too.
