The Emperor
Blackpond Lane,
FARNHAM ROYAL,
SL2 3EG
Off the beaten track, this old village inn is a pub for all seasons thanks to its log fire in winter and alfresco tables in the summer. A wealth of polished wood floors and original beams runs through the bar, conservatory and refurbished barn. British food based on fresh seasonal fare drives the menu, which might include rolled pork loin with mash, pear purée and spinach or salmon; and smoked haddock fishcake with wasabi and lime mayonnaise dip. Tuesday is steak night, when exotic choices might include springbok.

Risotto - delicious food but portion ridiculously small. It's sold as a main dish but all it is is being an appetiser. After complaining to the staff they just shrugged and smiled shyly, there was nothing they could do about it. So I left the pub hungry and feeling somewhat cheated.

The pub is located in a quiet village environment with views to the landscaped garden. Staff are friend and caring, and knows the menu well. The menu is just big enough to allow selection without confusion. There is fresh fish and seafood on offer daily and cooked very well. It is well-worth driving that extra bit to seek this place out.
