The Star Inn Tytherley
EAST TYTHERLEY,
Nr Romsey,
SO51 0LW
The 16th-century Star Inn stands overlooking the village cricket green in the smallest village in the Test Valley. You'll find Andwell Brewery beers and other guest ales behind the bar, plus an extensive international wine list. Dine where you like, in the bar, at dark-wood tables in the main dining room, or outside on the patio in summer, where you can also play king-sized chess. Lunchtime brings a variety of platters (fish, Barkham Blue, or Winchester farmhouse cheese), sandwiches (perhaps smoked salmon, crème fraîche and dill, or Cumberland sausage with caramelised onion), and a good value two-course menu (stir-fried tiger prawns with chorizo and gremolata, and roast chicken supreme). The evening menu might offer crab soufflé with watercress and saffron cream, and braised belly pork with sage polenta and celeriac purée. There's a good choice at Sunday lunch, too, including traditional roasts.

What a find. We had a wonderful lunch. Such a choice on the menu and so well presented. Although busy we were impressed by the welcome and service. Will definitely be returning.
