Red Lion Freehouse

A thatched building dating back to Tudor times, the Red Lion started life as a beer house run by Mrs Weeks. On the edge of Salisbury Plain and with fishing rights on the River Avon, the pub attracts country sports enthusiasts, not to mention locals tempted by guest ales and excellent food. Owned by two chefs with a background in top restaurants, everything is made on the premises using prime seasonal ingredients. You could start with warm crab tart; continue with roast rib of Wiltshire beef and end with Valrhona chocolate terrine. Early May Bank Holiday beer festival.
