Court Hill, COMPTON DANDO, BS39 4JZ
A former farmhouse, the Grade II listed Compton Inn has only been a pub since World War II, but it has been sympathetically restored. Located in picturesque Compton Dando, with its imposing church and hump-backed bridge crossing the River Chew, it is only a few miles from the bustling city of Bristol. It's an ideal bolt-hole to enjoy local ale and cider, and well-cooked dishes like pork loin, roasted apple and black pudding, sauté potatoes, vegetables and cider and mustard sauce; or 12oz gammon steak and free-range eggs. For pudding try Bailey's crème brûlée.
