This 16th-century creeper-clad inn is in an ideal spot for walking in the lush countryside surrounding the small village of Hopton Wafers. The inn retains much of its original character and has an enviable reputation for good food made with ingredients sourced from regional producers. Eat in one of three eating areas: in the Shropshire Restaurant overlooking the countryside; in Poachers, with exposed beams, stonework and large inglenook fireplace; and in the Rent Room, which offers daily menus, light bites and specials - and more of those rural views. In Poachers, a typical meal might be pan-seared scallops and asparagus on a salad of radish and red onion with a lemon dressing followed by fillet of beef on beetroot risotto with a pork reduction. The wine list has been selected by a local merchant and includes a wide range of fine ports, Armagnacs and Cognacs. The Crown is in an ideal spot for walking in the lush surrounding countryside.
