The Swan Inn
Petworth Road,
CHIDDINGFOLD,
GU8 4TY
Expect a hip hotel meets gastro-pub at this expertly reincarnated 17th-century inn, providing all the charm of the country with modern, chic rooms and suites, all of which are superbly appointed. Experienced, hands-on owner Annemaria Boomer-Davies has worked her magic and tidied the place up since taking over in May 2010. Expect a cool, modern bar area with wooden floor, chunky scrubbed tables and chairs, subtle spotlighting and a long, sleek bar lined with gleaming beer pumps. It may have a trendy, minimalist feel, but it is still a cracking village pub: the atmosphere is relaxed and you can still call in for a pint of Shere Drop, sit back and peruse the papers. The kitchen turns out dishes with ease and confidence, be it crab cakes or a classic burger at lunch, or chicken and foie gras terrine and chargrilled rib-eye steak with béarnaise at dinner. There is a super landscaped terraced garden for perfect alfresco dining on balmy days.

Our wedding party stayed in this hotel this weekend and were most disapointed with the attitude of the staff and managment and service we recieved. The rooms did not refect the 4 stars awarded. Sick on the balcony and broken showers. The food was limited as they run out and no apologise were given. The beds were not made daily neither were the rooms cleaned. Snacks ordered for the bride and bridesmaids were left in the room until be left. A most disapointing experience.
