Records going back over 400 years testify to the Castle's roots as an alehouse - even if its name has changed several times. Since buying the pub some 10 years ago, Mark and Tanya Hougham have made a great success of things due to their hard work and enthusiasm. Today the Castle is known for simply cooked food based on fresh locally-sourced ingredients, and Suffolk ales from Earl Soham and Cliff Quay. Mussels in one form or another are likely to appear among the starters, while the concise list of main courses will include well-aged beef, and perhaps a classic fish pie with cod, smoked haddock, capers, shallots, parsley and peas.
