The Admiral Nelson

Dark Lane, BRAUNSTON, NN11 7HJ

Despite its enviable position beside the Grand Union Canal, The Admiral Nelson has suffered a chequered history. Originally a 1730s farm building, the pub's custom waned as canal traffic declined; but fast forward to today, and the Davis family have certainly turned its fortunes around. Four hand pumps offer three guest ales and Admiral Ale, specially made by the local MerriMen microbrewery. The chef, Liam (son of the owners), applies the same care to the provenance of the kitchen ingredients; the village butcher supplies much of the meat and home-made pork pies, and he makes full use of produce from the nearby water buffalo farm. A big event on the pub's calendar is the music festival in August.
