67 Woolley Street, BRADFORD-ON-AVON, BA15 1AQ
New owners and a complete refurbishment have worked wonders here. The building was originally three Georgian houses, so the interior is comfortably spacious. Furnishings mix modern and period styles, with chesterfields and winged armchairs placed beside open fires. Half a dozen upholstered stools at the bar testify to the welcome awaiting drinkers, who choose between Butcombe and Bath ales, or Ashton Press and Thatchers ciders. From the open-fronted kitchen, chef-proprietor Alexander Venables produces tip-top dishes such as a starter of bouillabaisse with garlic aïoli, rouille and croûtes, followed by beef Wellington and seasonal vegetables; or slow-braised pork belly with a spiced herb crust.
