Cockhaven Arms

This friendly pub, dating back to the 16th century with later additions, is set in the quiet village of Bishopsteignton, at the foot of Haldon Moor and overlooking the lovely Teign Estuary. Full of history, it has plenty of original features, including the gallery landing, beams, and fireplaces. Menus are strong on local produce and pub classics, and you should definitely book for Sunday lunch. At lunchtime there are ciabatta sandwiches and toasties, jacket potatoes and omelettes available, while in the evening you might start with breaded whitebait or a sharing platter, followed by scampi and chips, gammon steak; or slow-cooked lamb shoulder in maple syrup glaze with creamy mash and local veggies.
