The Boot Inn

High Street, BERWICK ST JAMES, SP3 4TN

Here in their picturesque 16th-century property, formally trained chefs and landlords Giles and Cathy Dickinson aim to provide 'traditional British food', all home-made or locally sourced as far as possible. It's a Wadworth house which, as all the Devizes brewery's disciples know, means 6X and Henry's Original IPA. The Dickinson's say you won't find curry, chilli, lasagne or 'expensive gastro-pub concoctions'; instead, there's dishes like chicken liver and brandy pâté; Westcombe Cheddar and spring onion tartlet; roast rump of treacle-cured Stokes Marsh Farm beer with horseradish Yorkshire pudding; garlic and rosemary slow-roasted leg of Wiltshire lamb; and apple and blackberry crumble; or marmalade bread and butter pudding to finish.
