Ash Tree Inn

Brownbread Street, ASHBURNHAM, Battle, TN33 9NX

Deep in the Sussex countryside on the delightfully named Brownbread Street, the 400-year-old Ash Tree is a hub of local activity, hosting everything from quiz nights to cricket club meetings. It boasts a warm and bright interior, replete with stripped wooden floors, four fireplaces (two of them inglenooks), exposed beams and a friendly local atmosphere. Expect to find Harvey's ale on tap and traditional home-cooked meals such as battered tiger prawns with sweet chilli dip; or soup of the day followed by steak and kidney pudding or ham, free-range eggs and chips. Dishes are created from locally caught fish and seafood and locally produced meat and game. Walkers and dogs are welcome.
