George Inn

First licensed to sell beer as far back as 1397, this splendid Grade II listed flint and half-timbered inn is set in a picturesque South Downs' village. The heavy oak beams and ancient inglenook fireplace add plenty of character to the bar, whilst the kitchen serves delights such as rustic boards to share; steamed Thai-style mussels; crayfish, crab and avocado terrine; Mediterranean fish stew and pork tenderloin with button mushrooms and Marsala wine sauce. A network of smugglers' tunnels leads from the pub's cellars.
