George Inn

Splendid 14th-century, Grade II listed flint and half-timbered inn set in a magical South Downs village. The George boasts heavy oak beams, an ancient inglenook fireplace and a network of smugglers' tunnels leading from its cellars. The team of three chefs create delights such as rustic boards to share; potted crab with gremolata butter; game pâté with chestnuts and cranberry; braised lamb shank in spiced red wine, root vegetables and mash; linguine with mussels, king prawns, chilli and garlic in a white wine and cream sauce; and Sardinian spiced vegetable casserole.
