the meals were very good, the rooms were comfortable and warm, and the location is quiet and peaceful, out of reach of mobile phones. i will be back.

Have visited the Royal Oak for 19 years. Staff are friendly, helpful; food is excellent - it's a joy not having to make a choice each night. After dinner, we chat with the other regulars, though a TV room and board games are available. Great location, cosy rooms and the plumbing is fine.

One, the dinner was substandard and also mandatory. Two, the plumbing delivered only trickles of ice cold water for the majority of our stay. Both breakfast and dinner are at rigid times, 8:30am and 7 pm, which invites plumbing collapse for an hour before each event. Finally, the shelves in the lounge held a few dozen books about the lakes. No other books, no radio/cd player, no tv/dvd, no board games like chess, say. I would rate it 0 if that option was available.
