The wines

Manera Barbera 2016
In Piedmont at the foot of the Italian Alps fine wines and local foods (truffles and game especially) go hand in hand. The best reds are based on Nebbiolo or – as is the case with this wine from Claudio Manera – the mocha and plum rich Barbera grape.

La Croix de Bordeaux 2016
The Entre Deux Mers is a great source of fruity claret. The key is to have a network of contacts so you can secure the best vats to blend. With Bordeaux born Jean-Marc Sauboua in charge, that’s a given. Pure Merlot, this is ripe with lush plum fruit.

Viña Tarapacá Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Chile is one of the ‘go to’ destinations for Sauvignon Blanc. Its wines have classic elegance balanced by lovely ripe citrus fruit. Just what you’ll find in crisp, aromatic Viña Tarapacá – one of our bestselling Sauvignons, from a century old estate.

Bees Knees Chenin Blanc Viognier 2017
This zesty white’s causing quite a buzz with many rave customer reviews. It’s from the talented Gabb family and combines Cape speciality Chenin Blanc with soft, aromatic Viognier. Ripe and racy with irresistible tropical fruit and honeysuckle aromas.

La Folie de Pierre Chardonnay 2016
Think of wines of the Loire and you probably think Sauvignon Blanc but there’s so much more to this classic region. Chardonnay is made here in a style that reflects a cool climate and chalk rich soils, hence La Folie’s brilliant citrus, melon fruit.

Escudo de Oro Muscat 2016
They say Muscat is the only wine that actually tastes of grapes, and in the case of Escudo de Oro it’s a zesty mouthful of cool, crisp, freshly picked grapes. One of the most dazzling, aromatic and refreshing whites you’re likely to try this year.

Il Pino Pinot Grigio 2017
Revel in the brilliant, green apple fruit and refreshing zip in this stand apart Pinot Grigio. It’s from the Italian hotspot for this grape – the Veneto – and is so much more than simply fresh, with flavours that’ll have your taste buds tingling.

The Waxed Bat Shiraz Cabernet Malbec 2017
The Waxed Bat is one of Argentina’s most original and exciting wines, now with thousands of dedicated fans. It’s a sumptuous blend of three great grapes, crafted by the Malbec magician Opi Sadler – a terrific, velvety, black fruit and spice red.

The Monastery Shiraz 2016
From the unspoilt vineyards of Romania’s Muntenia that lie on the same latitude as both Bordeaux and Tuscany, this spicy Shiraz is a great value find. Gentle ageing in new Romanian oak barrels perfectly complements the wine’s exuberant fruit.

Los Hermanos Manzanos 2016
Rich, silky Rioja from a winemaking family who have been honing their skills for the last two centuries. Premium grapes from high altitude vineyards, plus six months in finest oak barrels ensure lush ripe fruit tempered by oaky complexity.

McPherson Family Series Pickles Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Wines made from the much loved Sauvignon Blanc grape are coming of age in Australia. This one, made by the acclaimed McPherson family cellar, offers tongue tingling, ripe, citrus flavours, with juicy, tropical notes. A very gulpable white.

Stumble Vineyards Merlot 2016
Chock-full of plummy richness and juicy black cherries – this Cape powerhouse is a big red wine lover’s dream come true. Nurtured to fruition by winemaking genius Bruce Jack at his state of the art winery, this Merlot is among the Cape’s smoothest.
