The K Club

STRAFFAN, Co Kildare, ROI,

The K Club was the venue for the Ryder Cup in 2006, the first time that Ireland has hosted the event. The course reflects the personality of its architect, Arnold Palmer, covering 220 acres of Kildare woodland, with 14 man-made lakes and the River Liffey providing the water hazards. From the instant you arrive at the 1st tee, you are enveloped by a unique atmosphere: the courses are both cavalier and charismatic. The Palmer Course is one of Europe's most spectacular courses, charming, enticing, and invariably bringing out the very best in your game. The best way to describe the Smurfit Course is that of an inland links but its attributes do not stop there. The course has many dramatic landscapes with dunes moulding throughout, while some 14 acres of water have been worked in to the design, especially through the holes 13-18; a watery grave awaits many on the home stretch. The course is entirely different from the Palmer Course located just across the River Liffey.
