The cost of learning

  • The average AA lesson price is £24.
  • It takes, on average, 45* lessons to pass the driving test.
  • By booking those lessons in advance, you can save £2 an hour or £90 in total.
  • Tests cost £30 for theory and £56.50 (Mon-Fri) / £67 (evenings and Saturdays) for the practical (£28.50 and £42.00 in Northern Ireland).

Reducing the cost

First, be absolutely sure you get the best tuition available with a fully qualified instructor. You could learn more quickly, and improve your chances of bringing the cost down.

Block book your lessons in advance to take advantage of some great discounts. You'll get a full refund if you don't need to use them all.

Take two-hour lessons – they could help you learn more quickly.

As an AA pupil, you'll have automatic discounts on AA Breakdown Cover and AA Car Insurance, so you'll save money there too.
