Woodchester Mansion

NYMPSFIELD, GL10 3TS

Woodchester Mansion is a 19th-century Victorian-Gothic masterpiece, mysteriously abandoned mid-construction in 1873 - the most popular theory is simply that the site was so haunted that the workers dropped tools (which can still be seen) and ran away. Hidden in a secluded valley, this Grade I listed building has been saved from dereliction - frozen in time, but never to be completed. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world.
