Twin water-wheels on the River Churnet drive flint-grinding pans in the two mills, and the museum houses a collection of machinery used in the preparation of materials for the ceramic industry. This includes a 100 HP Robey horizontal steam engine, a model Newcomen beam engine, and an edge-runner mill. Display panels explain the processes of winning and treating clays, stone and flint for the pottery industry. Other attractions include Caldon Canal, Miller's cottage and garden.
