Souter Johnnie's Cottage

Main Road, KIRKOSWALD, KA19 8HY

Write a review

'Souter' means cobbler and the village cobbler who lived in this 18th-century cottage was the inspiration for Burns' character Souter Johnnie, in his ballad Tam O'Shanter. The cottage is now a Burns museum and life-size stone figures of the poet's characters can be seen in the restored ale-house in the cottage garden.
