136 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, LONDON, E2 8EA

Write a review

The only museum in the UK to specialise in the domestic interiors and furniture of the urban middle classes. Displays span the 400 years from 1600 to the present day, forming a sequence of period rooms which capture the nature of English interior style. The museum is set in elegant, 18th-century buildings, surrounded by delightful gardens including an award-winning walled herb garden and a series of historical gardens which highlight changes in town gardening from the 17th to 20th centuries. One of the museum's historic almshouses has been fully restored to its original condition and is open on selected days (ring for details). Each December, the museum's period rooms are decorated in authentic, festive style to reflect 400 years of Christmas traditions in English homes.
