Southwark Cathedral
London Bridge,
LONDON,

Write a review
Originally an Augustinian priory, this is London's oldest gothic church, and has been a place of worship for more than 1,400 years. It became a cathedral for the Diocese of Southwark in 1905, and has links with Chaucer, Dickens and Shakespeare. John Gower and Shakespeare's brother Edmund are buried here. John Harvard of US university fame was baptised here in 1607, and there is a chapel to his memory. Visitors can view part of a Roman road, 14th-century cloister work, and kilns used for Southwark delftware in the 17th/18th centuries.
