Chavenage House
Chavenage,
TETBURY,
GL8 8XP
Write a review
Built in 1576, this unspoilt Elizabethan house contains stained glass from the 16th century and earlier with some good furniture and tapestries. The owner during the Civil War was a Parliamentarian, and the house contains Cromwellian relics. In more recent years, the house has been the location for Candleford Manor in the BBC's Lark Rise to Candleford, and in 2008 scenes for the adaptation of Tess of the D'Ubervilles were shot at Chavenage. Tours of the house are enlivened by ghost stories.
