Compton Castle

COMPTON, Marldon, TQ3 1TA

Write a review

Home to the Gilbert family for an almost unbroken 600 years, this imposing castle set against a backdrop of rolling hills and orchards evokes a bewitching mixture of romance and history. This is the last truly fortified dwelling to be built in Devon, and its extremely high curtain walls, symmetrical towers and portcullis create an unforgettable approach. Inside there are machiolations, spiral staircases and squints, making Compton a place of discovery and adventure for imaginative children and adults alike.
