Wirksworth Heritage Centre

Crown Yard, WIRKSWORTH, DE4 4ET

Write a review

The Centre has been created in an old silk and velvet mill. The three floors of the mill have interpretative displays of the town's past history as a prosperous lead-mining centre. Each floor offers many features of interest including a computer game called 'Rescue the Injured Lead Miner', a mock-up of a natural cavern, and a Quarryman's House. During the Spring Bank Holiday you can also see the famous Well Dressings. Exhibits on the top floor include one on quarrying, information about local round-the-world yachtswoman, Ellen MacArthur, and local memories from World War II. There's also a small art gallery carrying local works.
