Car Breakdown Assistance in Europe
It's six days before Christmas and you break down with a gear-box problem near Teruel in Spain.
What would you do?
- Panic. This was never meant to happen on holiday.

Actually, you do have a choice. This is based on real people's experience after they broke down in southern Spain. Luckily they were on their way home and they had AA European Breakdown Cover.
Day 1 of the car breakdown in Spain
After they called the AA, we contacted the Spanish assistance service on their behalf:
- The people were picked up by taxi.
- They were put up at a hotel overnight.
- The car was put on a flatbed.
Day 2 of the car breakdown in Spain
- A taxi then took the group to Perpignan, France.
- They picked up a hire car, which took them to their ferry port.
- In Britain, they picked up another hire car so they could drive home.
- Their car followed on a flatbed.
All that and they still managed to arrive home two hours earlier than originally planned.
