What is AA-X?

AA-X is an app that collects data from your car in real time and gives you insights about its health, so you can keep things running smoothly.

  • Get alerts about possible issues before they get worse and resolve them quickly.
  • Book a garage repair or call out an AA Mobile Mechanic, with estimates provided up front.

We’re currently in test phase, so joining AA-X now is like coming on an adventure with us. Like all great road trips, there'll be a few bumps, but that’s all part of the fun. Our clever algorithms are learning all the time and won’t always get everything right, but you’ll be playing a key role in creating a product that empowers drivers everywhere.

Eligibility

  • Because we’re still in test phase, AA-X is currently only available to existing AA customers around Wembley, Enfield and Dartford.
  • Your car must be compatible with a plug-in device (petrol cars from 2001 and diesel from 2006). To use it without the plug-in, you must have a Ford (most models from 2019 onwards).

If something does go wrong with your car, AA-X will send you an alert so you can nip it in the bud. Easy to understand descriptions of what the problem is, so you can schedule a fix and feel confident at the garage. And upfront estimates put you in the driver’s seat.

Data from your car is what makes AA-X go. It’s our fuel, our engine, our roadmap. Data is how we’re able to give you such intelligent insights and recommendations. It’s how we help you spot small issues before they become big problems.
Because it’s so important to us, we always treat your data with respect, and if we add new functions we’ll always let you know first. And did you know that sharing your data can benefit the wider community? If you’re not into sharing your data, that’s totally cool, but it means you won’t be able to use AA-X.

2 ways to play

There are 2 ways for AA-X to get your car's data. You can install our plug-in device or link the app directly to your manufacturer's data feed. Both are easy to do and come with clear instructions.

  • The plug-in device slots into a port which is usually found in your car's footwell.
  • We'll give you easy step-by-step fitting instructions based on your vehicle's make and model, so you'll know exactly where the device needs to go.
  • The plug-in will arrive by post in 3 working days.
  • Linking to your manufacturers feed is currently only available for most Ford models from 2019 onwards. We’ll be adding more soon.

Common questions

How do I fit my device?
Fitting your AA-X device is simple – there's no need to get help from a garage.

The device plugs into a port which is usually found in your car's footwell. You'll find a guide to fitting it in the app.
What do you do with the collected data?

The plug-in and manufacturer’s connection gather data about your car's health, such as engine and performance and battery life cycle, and use it to alert you about issues and provide insights.

I think my device has stopped working. Is there something I can do to fix it?

If you think your device has stopped working, follow these easy steps to reset it:

  • Unplug the device from your vehicle.
  • Leave the device disconnected for at least 30 minutes.
  • Plug the device back in.
  • Check the status of the device. When the device has been successfully plugged back in, the LED light on the device will flash rapidly.
  • After taking a couple of journeys, you'll be able to see updates about your vehicle's health in the app again.

I've unplugged my device. Can I plug it back in?
It's easy to plug your device back in. Just follow the instructions in the app.
Can I plug my device into another vehicle?

If you want to change to another vehicle, you’ll need to cancel your account and reorder a new plug-in. To do this you’ll need to call 0330 053 0466 and our team will be happy to help.

Important information

AA-X is a stand alone product that’s not part of your AA Breakdown membership. If you’re in a breakdown situation, please refer to your AA Breakdown policy documents.

AA-X is currently in test phase, which means it’s provided to eligible customers for free for a limited time for testing purposes. Features may change or be removed at any time.

Our clever algorithms are learning all the time, which means we might not catch every fault or be right 100% of the time. But we’re pretty impressed with what they can already do – and we think you will be too.

Fixes and repairs must be purchased separately. We’ll show you available AA-X Repair Services which can be purchased in the app, with estimates upfront.
