It's time to start enjoying the journey.
Take the pain out of travelling and arrive refreshed, relaxed and ready for your holiday.
In this feature, we show you how to plan ahead for a trouble-free trip.
And with a great range of AA discounts on travel essentials, you can save money too.
Read up on your destination and work out what's most important to you. Think about the places you really want to visit and the sights you most want to see – then work out just how much you can realistically cram into your time there.
Do allow some time for the new things you'll discover when you get there, but plan a rough itinerary using reliable maps and travel guides from our online shop. We have a huge range of guidebooks packed with advice, tips, inspiration, and great places to eat, drink and sleep. And if you're an AA member, you save an extra 10% in the AA Shop.
Ever wanted to order a coffee in Italian? Or French, German or Spanish? Our phrase books will help you order the perfect espresso, petit café, or café solo.
Insurance is essential wherever you're going. You need to know you'll be looked after, whether you're bitten by a baboon or simply lose your luggage. AA members can get enhanced benefits with our travel insurance.
Do you know your Sicherungsblech from your Sicherungsscheibe? Or your palpeur de vitesse from your palpeur de vilebrequin? If you're taking your car abroad, European Breakdown Cover is a must – providing access to our English-speaking helpline 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If our team can't repair your car, they'll sort a hire car or other arrangements to ensure you're soon back on your way. Your car will even be repatriated if necessary. It could cost more than £1,000 to bring a broken-down car home if you don't have cover.
If you'd rather hire a car at your destination, book online with a reputable firm to secure the vehicle of your choice – rather than being allocated an old banger when you arrive. AA members save up to 15% on car hire, and enjoy free cover for an additional driver.
If you'd rather be chauffeur-driven to your destination, we've teamed up with Holiday Taxis to offer our members a 10% discount on airport transfers at over 7,000 resorts and cities worldwide, whatever the size of your party.
You can make significant savings on spending abroad if you plan ahead and organise a Currency Card, especially if you're already an AA customer. If you'd rather opt for cash or traveller's cheques, AA Travel Money offers 0% commission, competitive exchange rates and free home delivery.
The 'Show your Card!' logo on the back of your AA membership card entitles you to lots of discounts and offers on accommodation, shopping, attractions, activities, transport and restaurants overseas.
Booking airport parking in advance takes some of the stress out of air travel – and as an AA member you can save 20% to boot. With secure parking at all major UK airports, you know your car will be safe and sound when you return. Simply leave the car and catch a speedy shuttle bus to the terminal or – for ultimate convenience – opt for a 'meet-and-greet' package. A parking representative will meet you at the terminal, take your car to a secure parking location and bring your car to the terminal when you return.
An even better idea is staying at the airport the night before your flight, especially if you have an early departure. Reach the terminal relaxed and ready for your holiday and avoid any potential last-minute traffic delays. AA members save up to 10% on stays at airport hotels.
Escape the noise and chaos of the terminal by booking into an airport lounge for up to three hours before your flight. Relax and enjoy complimentary drinks, snacks, newspapers and magazines – AA members save up to 10%.
We're working with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to help British nationals stay safe abroad. The FCO website offers straightforward travel advice, top tips and up-to-date country information to help you plan your holiday.
Alternatively, why not try the AA Travel Advice Tool? Simply enter a country and then select the information you require, from entry requirements or the latest travel advice, to information on health vaccinations, local laws and customs.
