Close to the Midlands motorways, yet nicely set in the countryside, the boutique-style Granary Hotel boasts a market garden to supply the kitchen with low-mileage fruit and veg. The key players in the kitchen brigade have worked together for a decade, developing a contemporary style to bring great seasonal ingredients together in well-considered compositions. A starter of confit duck comes with a zesty salad of orange and chestnuts with sherry vinaigrette. Main course brings a well-balanced combination of roast monkfish with spiced lentils, butternut squash and lime and coriander dressing. To finish, apples star in an assiette of Bramley apple cake, mousse, jelly, crisp and sauce.
