Conservatory dining in a former vicarage

Not a village pub as the name might suggest, but in fact a former vicarage turned into a country-house hotel. There's no shortage of global flavours on the menu - as is the modern British way - so starters run to smoked chicken timbale fired up with wasabi and pickled ginger, or a chicken breast served satay style. There's a refinement to the kitchen's output: the anything-but-humble pear and celeriac soup (with horseradish cream and sage oil), and main-course roasted loin of cod with an accompanying rösti enriched with fresh crab. Finish with a nicely tart glazed lemon tart. Check out the cuvée daughter Alix produces on the owners' own vineyard.
