Built during the reign of Charles I, Holdsworth House looks fit for a king with its handsome creeper-covered façade and charming period interior. Partridge off the Dales may find themselves potted in a first course with plum compôte, while Jerusalem artichokes are roasted in hay and served with goats' curd, winter truffles and trumpet mushrooms. The grill cooks up steaks, lamb rump, pork chop and the like, or go for roast monkfish tail with pommes Anna. For dessert, the kitchen's style is summed by a dish of warm ginger beer cake with popcorn ice cream and spiced plums. Sunday lunches are classic affairs, and afternoon tea is the real deal.
