Cut-above British pub food in a Cotswold country inn

Wines by the glass

Built as a coaching stop in 1748, The Red Lion is a textbook country inn, right down to its inglenook fireplace, settles and eclectic furniture and artworks by locals. The cooking takes traditional pub food to a higher level, both in terms of preparation and presentation. A typical meal might start with spicy peanut chicken brochettes with sesame, spring onion and cucumber salad; then from the specials board a herb-crusted baked hake fillet, baby leaf spinach and tomato and chilli salsa. To finish, go for rhubarb and stem ginger fool with home-made ginger biscuits. A well-balanced wine list backs it all up.
