A charming manor house not far from Leamington Spa, set in 10 acres of grounds including a kitchen garden where they grow some of the produce for the restaurant, Mallory Court has a comfortable country-house feel with plump sofas and wooden floors adorned with Chinese rugs. There are lovely garden and countryside views from the smart, panelled restaurant where floral drapes and elegantly dressed tables all add up to a classy setting, ideal for the smart, grown-up cooking style. The highly trained staff are attentive without being intrusive, and in addition to the seasonal carte and daily-changing set price menus there is a choice of 5- or 7-course tasting menus – and vegetarians also get their own menu. You might kick things off with a cleanly presented duck liver pressing, pickled blackberries, hazelnut, and Sauternes jelly – a classic pairing of flavours. Move on to pan-braised halibut, with pickled, puréed and roasted cauliflower, a nicely conceived combination of textures, before finishing with a delightfully refined apple and vanilla cheesecake with Pedro Ximenez and apple sorbet.
