The urban-cool boutique chain has taken a quayside warehouse as the starting point for its Newcastle outpost. The classy Chez Mal brasserie serves up a view over the Gateshead Millennium Bridge as well as a feel-good menu of globetrotting contemporary fare. Tuck into a classic prawn cocktail or Goan mussels in a coconutty curry sauce, before a Black Angus steak cooked on the grill, served with slow-roasted onion and soubise purée and a home-made steak sauce, the Mal burger with Ayrshire bacon and gruyère cheese, or seared tuna mignon with a Japanese spin. End in the comfort zone with Valrhona dark and milk chocolate torte.
