Chesterfields at an open fire, a mix of dining chairs and pew-style seating, and attentive staff add to the enjoyable experience of a visit to this whitewashed village inn. The kitchen turns out eloquently flavoured, well-executed dishes, among them a starter of foie gras brûlée with onion marmalade and brioche, then duck breast and foie gras mousse with red wine sauce, parsnip purée, vanilla mash and carrots, and smoked salmon linguine with toasted nuts and a creamy lemon sauce. Pub stalwarts like fish and chips may also appear, and to finish there may be tastes of cherry and chocolate - a play on Black Forest gâteau.
