Right in the centre of town, the family-run, recently-refurbished Deans is ever-popular. Here you'll find modern Scottish flavours in a vibrant, easy-going atmosphere. Willie Deans is a highly accomplished chef and his kitchen turns out skilfully executed, elegant dishes such as a first-course cassoulet of slow-cooked pork, pink venison loin and chargrilled potatoes. A main-course dish of fillet of lemon sole, with grilled king prawn, lemon-poached leeks, tomato braised potatoes and lobster cream, is delicate and subtle. For dessert, check out the chocolate and Armagnac soufflé cake, with ginger syrup and cherry ice cream.
