It would be a poor boathouse that didn’t have watery views, and there’s the River Thames, right on cue – all the better when the glass windows pull back. After experience gained at some top addresses, including Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and Per Se in New York, Shaun Dickens has his name above the door and his creative, contemporary food on the menu. The dining room is a smart and elegant space in the modern manner, watched over by an engaging service team. Classic and signature tasting menus support the carte and terrific value set lunch menus. Shaun is passionate about the ingredients he uses, building strong links with farmers and producers, which bears fruit in what arrives on the plate. A first course chicken parfait arrives with smoked eel and the flavours of roast apple and mustard, while creamy burrata is matched with confit beetroot and venison cured in juniper. Among main courses, Blythborough pork comes with a moreish bacon croissant, plus braised chicory and prunes, and a fishy option might be stone bass with black olives and red peppers. The invention and impressive presentation continues into desserts.
