Gee's continues to delight townies and gownies on the northern edge of the city centre. The glasshouse setting sees potted olive trees and lightweight café-style furniture in a room flooded with natural light, and the style is Med-influenced modern brasserie cooking. A wood-fired oven turns out pizzetti and sharing ribs of beef, while a charcoal grill cooks steaks, burgers and chops of lamb, pork or venison, served with creamed spinach. Crab mayonnaise or artichoke fritters are good starters, while fish lovers may enjoy whole sea bass simply dressed in lemon and parsley. Finish with blood orange tart, or a serving of prune ice cream glooped with treacly Pedro Ximenez sherry.
