The Hopping Hare is a 21st-century venue: the bar offers a stylish place to meet, while the restaurant is informal and atmospheric. The culinary output includes impressive grazing boards filled with cheeses, salmon, pastrami and such like, and extends to ambitious British dishes like a starter of pan-fried pigeon breast with Jerusalem artichoke purée, sticky honey-glazed chestnuts and black pudding crumb. There are French classical influences in dishes like a main course pan-fried Gressingham duck breast with confit leg, sautéed Savoy cabbage and Earl Grey jus, and a dessert of pineapple and star anise tarte Tatin or lavender and honey pannacotta with vanilla-poached pink rhubarb and ginger beer sorbet.
