Built in the 1840s, the Parsonage comes up with the traditional country-house goods, including six acres of primped gardens, a spa, a pub for casual dining and the more formal Lascelles Restaurant. The place exudes a warm-hued, gently modernised style, matched by cooking that deals in comfort and familiarity. Come for chicken and mushroom terrine with tomato and tarragon relish, ciabatta croûtons and heirloom tomatoes, followed by roast pork fillet with a pressing of confit belly, potato fondant and sage jus. Rhubarb cheesecake with a ginger biscuit base and the textural contrasts of rhubarb sorbet, purée and jelly makes a fitting finale.
